The shoreline is below a very steep hill and can be difficult to navigate if it has recently rained. Trash bags need to be carried up the hill to the collection site. There are two different locations on the shore to be cleaned up. |

The eighth year in a row we've been tackling this site. If you want to be put to work and feel as if you're making a difference, this is the place to come. The American Legion Bridge, the Beltway overpass above the Potomac River, is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to trash. Whatever you can think of -- joint compound buckets, ladders, bottles, car parts -- gets blown or thrown off into this area meaning it always needs help. There is much natural beauty here to appreciate but be prepared for highway noise. We will meet in the parking lot at Lockhouse #10 on the C&O Canal then walk up to the bridge area. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions about how to get to the site.
I'd also like to put a small group to work at the boat ramp at Lock 10 which appears to have been a historical bottle dump. There are shards of glass and ceramics that could be raked up.
Please note that students who participate WILL qualify for service hours -- just bring your form with you for me to sign...
