Seneca Landing / Riley's Lock

Cleanup Event

Volunteers will work from canoes to clean up Seneca Creek and the nearby Potomac River.
All volunteers at this site will be working in groups. One group of experienced whitewater paddlers may work downstream through rapids to take out at Pennyfield Lock . Other groups may work on the smooth waters of Seneca Creek and the Potomac River upstream. All volunteers in boats are required to wear life jackets. Boats, life, jackets, and paddles will be provided.
Volunteers who prefer to work on land are also welcome.

Depending on weather this will be a trash cleanup for walkers and on the water for boaters. We can shuttle boaters up to Kemps Mill dependent on water safety factors.
We will provide bags and gloves. Be sure to wear shoes that can get wet/muddy, bring a refillable mug/water bottle, and dress in layers.

2020 Big Spring Annual Occoquan River Cleanup

Volunteers Needed to Clean the Occoquan River – the water supply for most of the Eastern Part of Prince William & Fairfax Counties.

2020 -Friends of the Occoquan (FOTO) partnering with Prince William Trials and Streams Coalition (PWTSC) for Plastic Pollution Awareness in the Potomac Watershed

On Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. , Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition (PWTSC), a 501(c)3 organization and Friends of the Occoquan (FOTO) will have a big annual clean-up of the Occoquan River from different sites along +30 miles stretch of the Occoquan River. This clean-up will run from Cedar Run/Broad Run, through Lake Jackson, and from the base of Lake Jackson Dam through Hooes Run and Lake Ridge Marina (FOTO's base) to the Belmont Bay ( Belmont Bay Paddlers)
County stormwater ponds are also included for cleanup on-land serving as appropriate sites for community volunteers, students and scout troops.

Lakeford Community Association Lake Cleanup

The Lakeford Clean up is sponsored by the Lakeford Community Association in partnership with the Alice Ferguson Foundation. The lake area is part of the Holmes Run water system and home to area wildlife. We will meet at the tennis courts right off of New Providence Dr. at 9:30 am. The clean up will be around Fairview lake and the streams that feeds into same. Some of the cleanup will take place in wooded areas.

Its more than 150 acres of woods include two stream valleys, stands of towering poplar trees, commanding views hilltop views across the city, and small rock outcroppings.

?Sadly, years of littering and dumping have polluted the landscape. Invasive plant such as kudzu, bittersweet, and Asian wisteria have destroyed whole areas of forest and threaten others.

Join the Ward 9 Woods Conservancy in acting to save this special place before it is too late.

4 Mile Run Cleanup at Jennie Dean Park

This cleanup is for a high visibility section of Four Mile Run along Arlington Mill Drive and Shirlington Road.
The park itself is appropriate for most ages. Four Mile Run is only accessible through 3 entrances in the fence. Boots and sturdy shoes will be needed, waterproof boots recommended. Litter will need to be moved through the same openings in the fence.

Harpers Ferry NHP Potoma Wayside River Clean up

Cleanup Event

Please join us Saturday April 18h from 9:00am to Noon, for the Annual Potomac River Watershed Clean up at the Potoma Wayside River Access in Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. Ranger Samantha will be leading the clean up. Gloves, trash bags, & recycling bags will be provided. Bring your refillable water bottle, wear sturdy boots, dress in long pants of a tough fabric, and layers up top.

Parking will be just down the road, past the "Tri-State" Exxon, in the "Kettle Corn" lot. Permission has been granted by the property owner. Just ask the Kettle Corn or other Vendor folks where they'd like you to park.

Bring your phone and/or other camera to capture the project, and maybe even enter the Alice Ferguson Foundation photo contest!

Baker Park Cleanup

Join us to pick up trash and clean up invasive plants in Baker Park!

Enjoy a day of community-building while also helping to clean up our beautiful city! We will meet behind Schifferstadt Museum at 1110 Rosemont Ave, then we will disburse along Carroll Creek in Baker Park and to Waterford Park. The paths along the parks are accessible for bikes, strollers, wheelchairs, etc.

RSVP via Eventbrite is requested, but not required.

Gloves and trashbags will be provided.

To stay safe and hydrated, please bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen, sturdy/waterproof shoes (if you have them), long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and a hat.

The Potomac River Cleanup for Cobb Island, MD will be held on April 4th, 2020 from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Bags, gloves, and drinks will be provided. Kids will receive school volunteer credit and certificates for participating.

Directions- From 301 turn onto Rock Point Rd. (route 257) travel approximately 12 miles and turn right onto Cobb Island Rd. (route 254) continue for about a mile until you cross the Cobb Island bridge. Once you cross the bridge, our table will be set up in the grass next to The Cove at Cobb Island. Parking can be in The Coves parking lot. Please sign in at the table as this is where you will be able to pick where you would like to clean up!

The sixth year in a row we've been tackling this site. If you want to be put to work and feel as if you're making a difference, this is the place to come. The American Legion Bridge, the Beltway overpass above the Potomac River, is the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to trash. Whatever you can think of -- joint compound buckets, ladders, bottles, car parts -- gets blown or thrown off into this area meaning it always needs help. It's not as bad as when I first started working here, but a reconnaissance trip on 3/6/2020 indicates there's plenty to keep us occupied. There is much natural beauty here to appreciate but be prepared for highway noise. We will meet in the parking lot at Lockhouse #10 on the C&O Canal then walk up to the bridge area. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions about how to get to the site.

Stream Cleanup at Portal Drive NW Stream

Cleanup Event

We will do a cleanup of the stream bed and surrounding area of a creek that runs through a residential area on Portal Drive NW.

Participants should wear boots or sturdy shoes that you don't mind getting muddy.

Bring work gloves if you have them, but we also will have gloves at the site. We also will have trash bags at the site.

Steep and flat terrain make this site attractive to all volunteers. Children under 18 to be accompanied by adults. Community Service Credits will apply to students.
