Mallows Bay Clean Up

Cleanup Event

In Mallows Bay, more than 100 World War 1-era wooden vessels rest in the shallow bay -waters and along its shoreline marking one of the most curious yet important periods in the Nation’s maritime history. It's an exciting year to be along this section of the Potomac! Mallows Bay and an adjacent area of the Potomac River are being considered for designation as a National Marine Sanctuary (www.sanctuaries.noaa.gov/mallows-bay). Additionally, this area will be featured as part of the Centennial Commemoration of US entry into WWI (www.charlescountymd.gov/DiscoverQuest).

Bring a canoe, kayak or walk along the shore. Join local historians and archaeologists who will share the stories of Mallows as part of the cleanup activities. If you need a rental, please contact Judy at Atlantic Kayak ([email protected]) or 301-292-6455 - she will deliver and pick up the kayak and safety gear.

Thanks for considering this legendary site along the Potomac. We hope you are able to join us.-
